Forum engages with Limpopo traditional leaders
Xigamane Traditional Council and Chief Bohoni Xigamane said the forum facilitates the gathering between the mayor and traditional leaders every quarter.
LIMPOPO – Collins Chabane Mayor, Shadrack Maluleke hosted the Mayoral Mahosi-Tihosi forum at the Malamulele Town Hall on Thursday, urging traditional leaders to continue supporting the leadership of the municipality as well as being an advisory body of wisdom to the municipality and its people.
Maluleke said the municipality draws much wisdom from traditional leaders and that together, they should remain unshaken by the enormity of the challenges that exist in the quest to overcome poverty and underdevelopment in the rural areas, most of which are within the jurisdiction of traditional leadership.
“Together, we must continue to champion the hopes of thousands of South Africans who would cherish a better life, peace, equity, and justice.”
Xigamane Traditional Council and Contralesa Malamulele branch secretary, Chief Bohoni Xigamane said the forum facilitates the gathering between the mayor and traditional leaders every quarter, where engagement centres around discussions on housing, job creation, service delivery and mayoral bursaries and what the municipality has achieved so far.
“As traditional leaders under the leadership of Gezane Shadrack Maluleke and the council, we are happy about the progress made by the municipality,” he remarked.
In terms of water provision, he said traditional leaders know that the Vhembe District Municipality is the official water services authority. “We are engaging with them in terms of water, and we had a meeting with the Collins Chabane Municipality and soon will be meeting with the district to talk about water shortage in our villages. We also engaged with Road Agency Limpopo (RAL) in terms of roads in our areas, as there are damaged roads and gravel roads which need to be upgraded.”
Overall, the municipality is doing well in rendering services to the community of Collins Chabane, he added: “We are looking forward to engaging with the mayor, as he involves traditional leaders through special sittings in a bid to resolve the issues we have”.
