POLOKWANE – As a parent, it’s common to find yourself scrambling to find healthy snacks for your kids, especially during school holidays.
According to Polokwane-based nutritionist Pheladi Mamabolo, it’s normal and healthy for children to need snacks between meals.
“Trust me,as a new mom, it is normal and healthy for your children to need a snack between meals. All moms go through that and they can also be very picky. That’s because kids’ bodies need significant fuel to keep up with their growth and development,” Mamabolo said.
Kids need twice as many calories per kilogram of body weight as adults, which is around 60-80 calories per kilogram.”
To keep your little ones satisfied and energized, Mamabolo recommends the following quick and healthy snack ideas:
– Fruit smoothies with frozen fruit, milk, and a scoop of nut butter
– Lightly flavored or salted popcorn
– Peanut butter sandwiches cut into fun shapes
– Toasted cheese, such as cheddar or mozzarella
– Fish fingers or fish cakes
– Air-fried finger foods like fries or chicken strips
By offering your kids these nutritious snacks, you’ll be supporting their growth and development while keeping them happy and satisfied.
