Planned Olifantspoort water shutdown postponed

The 48-hour water supply interruption for the Olifantspoort Pump Stations, originally set for July 2-3, has been postponed until further notice.

Lepelle Northern Water confirmed the delay following a significant technical issue reported by the contractor on-site, which has made it impossible to carry out the planned shutdown as scheduled.

Thipa Selala, the municipality spokesperson, says that a new date will be announced once confirmed. Meanwhile, additional shutdowns planned for July and August are still under review.

POLOKWANE – Residents are advised to prepare for three, planned, 48-hour water supply interruptions across Polokwane due to essential refurbishment work on the Olifantspoort and Ebenezer water supply schemes.

The Polokwane Municipality spokesperson, Thipa Selala said Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) will conduct critical upgrades and pump station connections as part of Phase 1 of its long-term infrastructure improvements.

“These upgrades are aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the municipal water supply,” Selala said in a statement.

Scheduled shutdowns are as follows:

  • Ebenezer High Lift Pump Station:
    June 4-5
Areas affected: From Segwashi, Mentz and Mankweng to the city and Seshego

  • Olifantspoort Pump Stations 2 and 3:
    June 18–19
Areas affected: From Ga-Chuene to the city

  • Olifantspoort Pump Stations 1 and 2:
    July 2–3
    Areas affected: City and Seshego

Selala added that further interruptions are expected in July and August, with details to be communicated in due course.

“LNW has confirmed that a mitigation plan is in place to manage water availability and reduce the impact on consumers during the shutdown periods. We urge all households, businesses, and institutions to store enough water in advance and to use water sparingly during the affected times,” he said.
