Polokwane to get cold despite Limpopo dodging Antarctic blast

A strong cut‑off low sends chilly temps to Polokwane with daytime highs dipping and cold nights as Limpopo misses the worst of the Antarctic blast.

POLOKWANE – The South African Weather Service says a significant and dramatic drop in daytime temperatures can be expected over all provinces this week, with the possible exception of Limpopo.

The drop in daytime temperatures is due to a particularly intense cut-off low system, associated with severe and extreme winter weather which is expected to affect South Africa, persisting over the country until at least the middle of this week.

Despite the possible exception on Limpopo, residents in Polokwane should prepare for a notable drop in daytime highs and chilly overnight lows.

According to AccuWeather’s forecast, the city will see daytime temperatures in the high teens to low twenties this week with minimum temperatures expected to reach single digits.

Monday and Saturday will be the the “warmest” days of the week at 22°C with a minimum low of 3°C and 5°C, respectively.

Tuesday will cool down to 18°C with a low of 4°C while Wednesday and Thursday will see highs of 20°C and 19°C, respectively and lows of 4°C.

Moving into the weekend, highs of 20°C are expected on Friday and Sunday with lows of 5°C.

Despite the chill, Polokwane will remain mainly dry, with little to no measurable rain expected.
