Attempt to smuggle stolen vehicle into Zimbabwe foiled by Lim police

A stolen Hyundai H1 was recovered at Beitbridge when a man was caught trying to smuggle it into Zimbabwe with fake documents.

LIMPOPO – A 44-year-old man was arrested for fraud and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle at Beitbridge Port of Entry on Monday afternoon.

The suspect was apprehended at the Departure Vehicle Check Point at around 15:30 while allegedly attempting to smuggle a grey Hyundai H1 into Zimbabwe.

According to the Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba, the suspect is said to have presented fraudulent documentation for the vehicle, which had been reported stolen in Pretoria on August 12, 2024.

“Police immediately took the man into custody and he has been charged with possession of a suspected stolen vehicle and fraud. The vehicle has been seized for further investigation,” Ledwaba said.

The provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe commended the officers at the port for their vigilance and swift response.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court soon while investigations continue.
