R1.3m dagga haul: Police bust smuggling operation in Limpopo

Ten bales of dagga with a street value of R1.3 million were seized by Limpopo police during a major operation on the R529.

LIMPOPO – The police in the Letsitele policing area in the Mopani district has confiscated dagga with an estimated street value of R1.3m.

During the operation, involving various law enforcement teams, a 43-year-old man was arrested and the drugs were confiscated.

The Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba said the teams received information about a white sedan suspected to be transporting dagga from Swaziland to Zimbabwe and an operation was activated.

“The vehicle was spotted along the R529 in Mafarana Village and it was stopped and searched. The team found weighing 217,2kg with an estimated street value of R1.3m,” Ledwaba’s statement read.

The suspect will appear before the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (June 19) on a charge of dealing in drugs.
