How this week’s intense cold front will affect Polokwane

Polokwane residents can expect a drop in temperature this weekend as an intense cold front makes landfall in South Africa on Wednesday.

POLOKWANE – The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says an intense cold front is expected to make landfall over the south-western parts of South Africa tomorrow, bringing a significant shift in weather conditions as the week continues.

This is the second intense cold-front to hit South Africa in a matter of weeks, bringing cold temperatures, windy conditions and even snowfall across the country.

But how will this affect Polokwane?

The SAWS says the system will move eastwards as the week progresses with interior winds expected to pick up and spread over the remainder of eastern provinces on Thursday and Friday (June 27 and 27).

Daytime temperatures will drop to ‘cold category’.

According to StormReportSA, temperatures will start dropping from Thursday, with much colder conditions continuing into the weekend.

Forecast for Polokwane

Accuweather’s forecast suggests a stark drop in temperature for Polokwane from Friday, well into next week, with maximum temperatures in the high teens to low twenties.

A high of 19°C is expected on Friday with Saturday dropping to 18°C and Sunday peaking at 20°C.

Windy conditions are also expected on Thursday and Friday with speeds of 19km/h and 22km/h, respectively.

Despite the cold, sunny conditions are expected in the city throughout the weekend, which may help warm things up.

Minimum temperatures will reach single digits, ranging between 4°C and 6°C .

According to MSN Weather, daytime temperatures will drop to 17°C on Friday and Saturday and peak at 20°C on Sunday.

Their forecast predicts partly cloudy conditions across the weekend with minimum temperatures reaching single digits.

The SAWS says they will continue to monitor any further developments relating to the weather system and issue subsequent updates as required.
