Trio of murder suspects escape from Letsitele police holding cells

A manhunt is underway for three awaiting-trial prisoners, considered armed and dangerous, who fled Letsitele police cells this morning.

LIMPOPO – Police in the Mopani District have launched an intensive manhunt after three awaiting-trial prisoners escaped from police custody early this morning (June 24).

The escape occurred at around 05:35 from the Letsitele police holding cells.

The suspects, Patrick Mbombi, Thabo Moye Makgopa, and Javas Mongwe, were in custody for murder and are considered armed and dangerous.

According to the Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba, the trio allegedly overpowered the officers on duty before fleeing on foot.

Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist in tracking down the suspects to contact Detective Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mavis Shilubane on 082 469 0900, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, their nearest police station, or report anonymously via the MySAPSApp.

“All information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality. Police investigations continue,” his statement read.
