What to expect at Haenertsburg’s first Winter Festival this weekend

Don’t miss Haenertsburg’s first Winter Festival with a family fun walk, music, food stalls, and cooking competitions.

POLOKWANE – If you’re looking for a memorable way to start the winter holidays, Haenertsburg’s very first Winter Festival promises a weekend full of food, fun, and festive cheer.

Set against the charming backdrop of this quaint mountain village, the festival offers a delightful blend of activities for all ages.

Visitors can look forward to sampling delicious fare from Haenertsburg’s many beloved restaurants and cafes while enjoying a variety of events throughout the weekend.

A family fun walk will take place on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29.

The 5km route, mostly gravel and marked, starts at the corner of Mare and Rissik streets.

Participants can set off any time between 08:00 and 11:00, and at just R30pp, it is an accessible and enjoyable way to explore the area.

There will be water points every kilometre, and the walk is pet-friendly, so feel free to bring your furry companion along on a leash.

For those who love cooking, Stella’s will host a lively potjiekos competition.

Teams can enter for R400, with cooking starting at 08:00. Judging begins at 12:30, followed by a prizegiving ceremony at 14:00. For more information or to enter, contact Stella Human at 071 736 6424.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, local musicians will take to the stage, and exhibitions by the Letaba Fire Protection Association and the Sanparks Honorary Rangers will provide fascinating insights into conservation efforts in the Kruger National Park.

Meanwhile, the town will buzz with a craft market offering handmade goods, and classic family fun with traditional boeresport games.

If you have got a sweet tooth, don’t miss the pudding competition, also happening on Saturday.

Bakers interested in showing off their best baked desserts can contact Kerry Gibson at 083 744 0766. Judging for this event also begins at 12:30 on Saturday.

Throughout the weekend, guests can relax in the beer garden, enjoy the music, and soak in the festive spirit of Magoebaskloof.
