POLOKWANE – Two friends, Grace Mkhonto from Ladanna and Koketso Mashile from Burgersfort, have teamed up to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children this winter.

Driven by the African proverb ‘It takes a village to raise a child’, the duo has launched a winter clothing drive to support children in need.

Mkhonto said the initiative was inspired by a conversation about motherhood and the privilege of being able to keep their own children warm.

“We realised that while we are fortunate enough to provide our kids with warm clothing, many children face the cold without even the basics,” she said.

The pair is appealing to the public to donate new or gently used winter clothing for boys and girls aged between one and 14 years.

Items being collected include tracksuits, jerseys, socks, shoes and hats. The donated clothes will be distributed to identified children in the community as well as to selected local non-governmental organisations.

“With temperatures dropping during the cold fronts, we hope this initiative will bring comfort to those most in need. We want every child to feel loved and cherished. Even the smallest donation can have a big impact, it doesn’t take much to make a difference,” Mkhonto said.

Those willing to contribute can drop off their donations at 18 Klipdam Street in Ladanna. She can also be contacted directly at 079 683 1989.
