MOKOPANE – Excitement filled the air at the RET Centre last Saturday as teachers, learners and community members gathered to celebrate the 2025 Best Bushveld Teacher Awards, an inspiring tribute to the region’s most dedicated and impactful teachers.

Organised by Mokopane Destiny Academy, the event aims to recognise teachers who go beyond the call of duty.

“We started this to change the narrative. Too often, teachers only hear criticism. We wanted to show them that what they do matters, and it’s being noticed,” said organiser Daleen Janse van Rensburg.

This year’s awards saw over 265 nominations from across Limpopo. Nominations were open to parents, learners, and colleagues, focusing on teaching excellence and emotional or social impact. After three months of challenges and assessments, 11 finalists emerged, with the top teachers selected by a panel of judges.

The 2025 Best Bushveld teacher is Lethabo Lamola and the Hero Teacher Award went to Tamaryn du Plessis.

The overall Best Bushveld Teacher Award went to Lethabo Lamola from Hoërskool Piet Potgieter. Known for her vibrant and passionate approach, Lethabo’s classroom inspires curiosity and confidence. Her school received an inverter as part of the prize.

The runner-up was Magriet van Tonder from Mokopane Destiny Academy, celebrated for her creativity and deep learner impact.

The Hero Teacher Award went to Tamaryn du Plessis from Mokopane English Combined School, recognised for her fearless innovation and genuine connection with learners. Her school received a 3D printer.

Runner-up Michelle van der Walt from Kinnerpark was honoured for her compassion and dedication.

Winners received tablets sponsored by Minda Marshall from Eyebraingym, and runners-up each received air fryers sponsored by Rian van Heerden from ‘Doen dit met Rian’.
