Luxury SUV recovered near Polokwane during anti-smuggling operation

A Zimbabwean national (51) was arrested after police intercepted a stolen luxury SUV headed for the Beitbridge border on Wednesday.

POLOKWANE – A luxury SUV worth over R2.5m was successfully recovered on Wednesday (July 2) during an intelligence-driven, anti-smuggling operation along the N1 outside Polokwane.

The Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the operation was carried out by the Limpopo SAPS in collaboration with ShadowSecure Security, Tshimollo Security and Investigations, and Tracker Connect.

“Acting on a tip-off about a vehicle allegedly stolen in Brooklyn, Pretoria and en route to the Beitbridge border, the operational team maintained surveillance along the highway. The Nissan Patrol V8 5.6 was spotted and intercepted near Shell Ultra City, within the Westernburg policing area. Further checks confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen,” his statement read.

A 51-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested at the scene and charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today (July 4).

The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the swift action and praised the coordination between law enforcement and private security.
