Tommies tackle Eskom Expo challenge

Three Tom Naudé learners will compete in the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, presenting innovative projects to solve real-world problems.

POLOKWANE – Three learners from Technical High School Tom Naudé – Kgabo Monama, Unakho Monama and Lesego Mokgabudi – have taken on the challenge of the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, an annual competition where learners present their own scientific research projects.

Lesego Mokgabudi told Review that the expo offers a platform for learners to showcase solutions to real-world problems.

“You have to identify a problem and solve it through a project. By applying the scientific and technological design process, we explore, research and develop solutions or prototypes that respond to societal questions, challenges, or needs,” she said.

The expo gives participants the opportunity to engage with mentors and professionals in various scientific fields, offering guidance and insight.

Participants can choose to work on projects that fall under scientific investigation or experimentation, engineering or computer science, social science, mathematics, and theoretical studies.

Categories include environmental studies, chemistry and biochemistry, agricultural sciences, plant sciences, social sciences, biomedical and medical sciences and microbiology.

Lesego, Unakho, and Kgabo will take part in the cluster round at Capricorn High School on July 29.
