Seshego man builds leading streetwear brand
A determined Johannes 'Jojo Manjaro' Magongwa has built Barax into one of Limpopo’s top streetwear brands, blending fashion, music, and entrepreneurship.
POLOKWANE – Johannes ‘Jojo Manjaro’ Magongwa, an entrepreneur from Seshego Zone 2, has turned his humble beginnings into a thriving business with ‘Barax’—hailed as one of Limpopo’s biggest clothing brands.
If you’ve driven through Polokwane, you’ve likely seen the bold logo on taxis, cars and crowds at local events. From streetwear to street culture, the brand has become a household name.
“I’m fully committed to my work. I don’t drink or smoke because I want my business and brand to speak for me. Even when I go to clubs, it’s for work. I also do music and often get booked at events,” Jojo told BONUS.
The nickname ‘Jojo Manjaro’ was passed down by his uncle, Zilla Manjaro, a popular musician in the ’90s. Jojo adopted the name as a tribute and a continuation of his family’s creative legacy.
While he now juggles fashion, music, acting and farming, Jojo once ran a construction business selling building material.
“I left that behind when I felt my passion shifting. I’ve learned never to be afraid of trying something new or even failing, as it’s part of the journey,” he said.
With a degree in computer science, Jojo continues to reinvent himself while creating jobs. His brand now supports seven staff members and owns delivery vehicles and production machinery. Despite a slow start and plenty of critics, he pushed forward. “We began with just five shirts. Today, ‘Barax’ is a lifestyle. My dream is to have stores across Africa.”
His message to aspiring entrepreneurs?
“Be patient, block out negativity, and never give up. You just don’t know where your next win is.”
