POLOKWANE – Two men, aged 40 and 43, were arrested in separate incidents for possession and dealing in dagga, with a combined estimated street value of R162 000.

The arrests took place in Ohrigstad, Sekhukhune District, and Westenburg during targeted police operations conducted between Monday (July 14) and Tuesday (July 15).

In the Ohrigstad area, members of the Crime Prevention Unit were conducting Operation Shanela II along the R555 when they stopped and searched a suspicious vehicle on Monday. The vehicle was found to be carrying 15 bags of cannabis, with an estimated value of R112 000. The 43-year-old driver, who was travelling alone to Polokwane, was immediately taken into custody.

In a separate incident, the Provincial Flying Squad arrested a 40-year-old man in the Ladanna area of Westenburg. Acting on a tip-off, officers launched an operation between Monday and Tuesday. The suspect was found with cannabis intended for delivery in Ladanna. A follow-up search at his residence led to the discovery of more drugs packaged in bags, bringing the estimated value of the confiscated drugs to R50 000. The suspect was arrested on the scene.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the officers involved for their vigilance and swift action.

The two suspects are expected to appear separately in the Praktiseer and Polokwane Magistrate’s Courts soon. Police investigations are still underway.
