Limpopo traffic officials arrested 12 drunk drivers over the weekend in a crackdown across the Waterberg and Mopani districts.

LIMPOPO – A total of 12 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence during a weekend operation by the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety.

Conducted on July 26 and 27, transport spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene says all 12 males, between the age of 26 and 50, were arrested in key areas of the Waterberg and Mopani districts, including Mokopane, Northam, Tzaneed and Bolobedu.

Chuene said the operation forms part of the province’s intensified effort to reduce road fatalities and promote responsible driving.

“We are taking a firm stance against drunk driving. Motorists are urged to plan ahead and always designate a sober driver when socialising,” Chuene said.

The department reiterated its call for responsible road use and encouraged communities to support law enforcement efforts in curbing reckless behaviour behind the wheel.
