Eagle’s Nest chess players impress at tournament
Chess player Letlotlo Selepe mentioned that chess is also a proven way to improve memory function.
POLOKWANE – Eagle’s Nest primary phase principal Bertie de Lange says they are truly proud of the school’s chess players.
“Congratulations to our chess players who participated at the Capricorn Qualification chess tournament in Polokwane on Saturday. A special mention goes to Letlotlo Selepe for achieving sixth position in the u/14 category out of 65 players and to Ditheto Maja for achieving 14th position in the u/12 category out of 46 players.”
Maja told Review she has learnt a lot by playing chess.
“When you participate in tournaments, you learn about yourself and how you handle adversity, how you think in long term goals and when to switch into immediate mode based on what is happening in the game.”
Selepe added that chess is considered as a creative quest with endless opportunities, as an escape from other issues of life.
“Chess is also a proven way to improve memory function.”
“Well done too to players Selaelo Malatji, Thatego Modjadji, Langanani Mathivha and Tumelo Maunatlala who were also part of the tournament and represented the school well,” De Lange concluded.
