What matriculants are doing to stay calm ahead of NSC results release

With the festive season over, Noorderland High matric learners share how they plan to keep busy and manage stress while waiting for their 2025 NSC results.

POLOKWANE – With the festive season behind them, matriculants now face the long and often anxious wait for the release of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results.

Without the December distractions of holidays, outings and social events, many learners are left with more time and with that, more space for worry, overthinking and imagining every possible exam outcome.

To find out how young people are coping with this period, the Review visited Noorderland High School and spoke to several Gr 12 learners about the activities, routines and strategies they plan to use to keep themselves busy and manage the pressure while they wait for their 2025 matric results.

Here is what they had to say:

Thato Mathabatha: I plan to spend all of my free time with my friends and family to avoid thinking about the results. I plan to use the time wisely and socialise while I still can before going to university.
Rethabile Mapoulo: The anxiety is dependent on how I’ll have written the exams. I plan to embrace the stress so that when the results come, the excitement will be well deserved.
Mudalo Magoma: I will distract myself by researching different universities and the courses that they offer. I will try to remain positive and lean on prayer to get through the wait.
Katlego Thosago: I will take the time to pray and spend time with my younger brother because he talks a lot which can be distracting.
Tshegofatso Mankga: How I feel at the end of the exams will determine whether I have reason to stress or not. But I will remain calm and accept whatever outcome.
Keabetswe Motau: The best way to get through this time is by letting myself go through the motions and feel every emotion. I know I have prepared well for the exams and I have done all that I could’ve done. I leave everything else in God’s hands.
