PEPPS learners discover what it takes to be a school principal

Three Gr 2 learners at PEPPS Polokwane shadowed their principal, Sue Altenroxel, gaining insight into leadership and school life.

POLOKWANE – Three enthusiastic Gr 2 learners recently had the unique opportunity to spend time with PEPPS Polokwane preparatory head, Sue Altenroxel – affectionately known as ‘Ms A’.

The experience stemmed from a class activity where learners wrote and presented speeches about what they believed a school principal does each day.

To make this lesson more meaningful, three learners were invited to shadow Ms A, observe her busy schedule, and meet some of her colleagues.

Afterwards, they drew pictures capturing what they had seen and shared their own vision for the school.

The opportunity left a lasting impression, inspiring the learners to consider becoming principals themselves one day.

Akani Makhasa said she enjoyed the experience and discovered that the principal’s role involves many responsibilities: “She checks that the school budget is going fine and she checks if the rules are being followed.”

Palesa Mhlaba said she had fun shadowing Ms A while she ensured learners followed the rules and picked up litter.

Meanwhile, Rethabile Mnisi noted that he admired how the principal addresses bullying among learners – something he thought was ‘awesome’.
