Sophiatown spirit revived at PCS’s Soweto Travels Concert

PCS revived the township concert spirit in a nostalgic Soweto Travels production featuring learners performing timeless South African hits and vintage dance acts.

POLOKWANE – PCS hosted their Soweto Travels Concert at the school on Wednesday evening.

The concert took the audience back in time with the learners performing timeless classics.

It told a story of a concert in the township with a Sophiatown feel that saw people coming from far and wide to show their talents performing hits like ‘Shosholoza’, a Nguni song that was sang by miners in the apartheid era, ‘Special Star’ by Mango Groove and ‘Pata Pata’ by Miriam Makeba.

It was an entertaining experience and the audience was surprised by a experience by the Vintage Gurus.

The producer, Yonsie van Staden said they wanted to add a bit of nostalgia with the theme of the concert.

“The beauty of this concert is that it cost nothing to put together, as everything was recycled. We all really worked hard to make the evening a success.”

She thanked the Vintage Gurus, a kofifi dance group that wears vintage clothes for volunteering their time to perform at the final rehearsal and on the night of the concert. They inspired the learners to embody the theme of the concert.
