Eagle’s Nest dancer earns spot at US competition

Polokwane dancer Mufunwa Mafenya dazzled at the American Dance Awards, earning gold and a spot at the global finals in Florida.

POLOKWANE – Eagle’s Nest Christian School Gr 4 learner Mufunwa Mafenya, has danced her way to international recognition after winning gold and being named top score runner-up for her acrobatic solo at the American Dance Awards (ADA), held from October 3-11 at Lewende Woord Centurion in Pretoria.

Her outstanding performance has earned her a place to compete at the prestigious Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood Beach, Florida, from July 19-25 next year.

Mufunwa also secured gold medals for her duo and all her group dances at the ADA, and went on to win another gold for her solo and a high silver for her duo at the Dance Fusion round.

“We are incredibly proud of Mufunwa for her achievements and for representing both the school and the country with such excellence,” said Eagle’s Nest Christian School primary school principal, Bertie de Lange.

In Florida, Mufunwa will go head-to-head with top dancers from regional events across the US, Canada, Ecuador and China.
