From Sudan to Polokwane: The story behind Donald Duck Crèche
Donald Duck Crèche founder Louise Rossouw turned her Sudan experience into a thriving Polokwane early learning centre that inspires curiosity and confidence.
POLOKWANE – What started as a life-changing experience in Sudan has grown into a much cherished early learning centre in the city.
Donald Duck Crèche, founded by Louise Rossouw, has been nurturing children’s growth and curiosity since 2012.
Rossouw’s passion for early childhood development was sparked during her time in Khartoum, where she worked with children at the International School of Khartoum and local communities.
“I saw how curiosity, love and attention can build confidence and shape a child’s future,” she recalled.
Upon returning to South Africa, Rossouw pursued studies in Early Childhood Development (ECD) and established the crèche, creating a space where children can explore, play and thrive through guided, play-based learning.
Opening the school was not without challenges. The registration process took nearly two years, and balancing teaching with administrative duties tested her patience.
“It taught me persistence and the importance of leading with purpose,” she said.
At Donald Duck Crèche, teachers focus on building confidence, independence and creativity. Rossouw highlights teamwork and open communication as key to ensuring the best outcomes for learners.
Looking forward, the crèche plans to blend modern technology with traditional learning methods.
“Technology can enhance creativity, problem-solving, and communication, but it should never replace hands-on experiences that help children grow physically, socially and emotionally,” Rossouw said, highlighting the importance of outdoor play.
Her vision is to create a learning environment where innovation and tradition work hand in hand, allowing children to discover the world through play, movement and wonder.
