Learners shine at General Piet Joubert prize-giving

From perseverance to excellence, learners at General Piet Joubert School were celebrated for academic and personal growth during the school’s annual awards.

POLOKWANE – The year four learners at General Piet Joubert School celebrated their achievements during a special prize-giving ceremony held on Friday.

Among the proud recipients was Tebogo Mathobela, who received the trophy for most outstanding academic progress.

Tebogo’s journey has been remarkable.

When he first joined the school in orientation 01 (junior school), he could barely read or write.

Through perseverance and dedication, he has shown exceptional improvement, achieving an overall average of above 70% in the recent June examinations.

The title of most outstanding learner was awarded to Nombuso Shilakoe, a senior learner who has set an inspiring example for her peers.

Nombuso is known for her active participation both in and outside the classroom, her strong work ethic, and her leadership qualities.

Maretha Swanepoel

My name is Maretha Swanepoel and I have worked at the Polokwane Review since 2012. The decision to become a journalist came at 04:00 one Friday morning while watching news of bombings in Afghanistan and I realised I wanted to be there. Some years later, I decided to rather stay in South Africa and join the industry due to my love for writing and curiosity. Even though I can write all beats, I love human interest and community news with some schools added to the mix. Telling someone’s story and using my camera to make memories is a privilege. My interests include animals (especially dogs) and mental health. I like to spend my time with my dogs and a good book. My family is important and takes second place in my heart. God is always first.
