Limpopo’s best tennis talent battle for provincial selection at Polokwane trials

More than 400 matches were played at the Polokwane Tennis Club as Limpopo selected its team for the 2025 Inter-Provincial Tennis Tournament.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Tennis Club was buzzing with energy this weekend as more than 400 matches were played during the Limpopo leg of next year’s Inter-Provincial Tennis Tournament.

The event brought together the province’s top tennis talent, with players across multiple age groups competing for a coveted spot on the Limpopo team.

Tournament director Ernest Faver praised the level of competition and the professionalism of the participants.

“It’s incredible to see such talent emerge from Limpopo. The dedication these young athletes show is inspiring,” Faver said. “Over 400 matches is no small feat over a single weekend. Every player gave their all, and we’ve identified some true stars who will proudly represent Limpopo next year.”

Faver also highlighted the importance of teamwork and support from the local community.

“I want to congratulate all the players for their hard work and sportsmanship. And a big thank you to the Polokwane Tennis Club and the municipality for providing us with such a fantastic venue – without their support, this event wouldn’t have been possible.”

Reflecting on the growth of tennis in the province, Faver said: “It’s amazing to witness the progression of these players. Some have been competing for years, and others are making their debut at this level, all of them are contributing to the bright future of tennis in Limpopo.”

The trials concluded with the announcement of the Limpopo team for the 2025 Inter-Provincial Tournament, marking the start of an exciting journey for the province’s finest tennis players.

“Congratulations to all the players, and remember, this is just the beginning of an incredible journey,” he concluded.

My name is Maretha Swanepoel and I have worked at the Polokwane Review since 2012. The decision to become a journalist came at 04:00 one Friday morning while watching news of bombings in Afghanistan and I realised I wanted to be there. Some years later, I decided to rather stay in South Africa and join the industry due to my love for writing and curiosity. Even though I can write all beats, I love human interest and community news with some schools added to the mix. Telling someone’s story and using my camera to make memories is a privilege. My interests include animals (especially dogs) and mental health. I like to spend my time with my dogs and a good book. My family is important and takes second place in my heart. God is always first.
