The newly appointed Black Leopards Coach, Sello Chokoe is pleased to have won his first match since taking over at the club two weeks ago. Chokoe and his troops beat African Warriors 2-1 in their 24th match of the National First Division (NFD) played at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
Their goals were scored by former Winners Park and Moroka Swallows midfielder Morgan Shivhambu and Caiphus Mashaine in the second half of the match.
Xolani Ngema scored the only goal for African Warriors in the first half of the match of the exciting encounter.
The victory still put Leopards in the 9th position with 31 points after 24 matches and they still need more points to book a place in the top 8 bracket of the NDF.
“The victory was important for the team and for me as a coach. The team had gone five matches without tasting a victory and that was a concern for us. We are happy with the overall performance and we will continue with the same vigour other matches,” Chokoe said.
Leopards’ next match is against the relegation threatened Mthatha Bucks at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday.
Mthatha Bucks are currently of 14th position of the division with 22 points after 24 matches and they will need points to improve their current standing on the division.
Chokoe further stated that it is not going to be an easy match considering the position on the division. “It is always tough playing against teams that are in the relagation zone because they fight and they fight hard. We will exercise caution and play our normal football because we cannot afford to lose the match,” Chokoe said.
