Time has run out for entering the annual Mayoral Road Cycle Race to be hosted at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Entries closed yesterday (Wednesday) and those who have entered have reason to be excited about the prize money totalling R320 000. Participants can furthermore look forward to pedal in the company of South Africa’s big names in cycling such as Lynette Burger and Nolan Hofmann.
At the recent launch organiser of the event Jaco Fourie said young riders are looking up to professional riders and that is why Polokwane is hosting the event which lures national winners as an inspiration for young talented local riders. In the female and male categories spectators can expect riders from teams Bestmed and Clover who will battle it out in the 96 km. Also available on the day will be a 45 km and 15 km race,” Fourie said.
Winners in the 96 km can expect prize money of R25 000 while 45 km winners can look forward to approximately R5 000 for first place. Well over R13 000 worth of prizes are up for grabs in the 15 km for under 14 riders only.
The race will start at 07:00 and spectators are invited to join in the event and support local riders.
