Polokwane City Football Club will have to pull out all the stops in their match against Mpumalanga Aces at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on 30 April.
The club is currently in the 13th position of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and in dire need of points in order to avoid relegation.
On Saturday they managed to beat Chippa United 1-0 at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium but the feat was not enough to give them a lift in the league. Aces on the other hand are enjoying a good run under the guidance of Mushin Eturgural and currently occupy the fifth position with 41 points.
Spokesperson Polokwane City, Tumelo Makgoara said they will continue to grind for the points until the last match of the league.
In the 2013/14 PSL season Polokwane City was nearly relegated to the National First Division (NFD) but survived the quagmire in the Promotional Play-Offs. “We don’t want to find ourselves in a similar position. We know how it feels to fight relegation and we don’t want to go there. We are left with five matches and that is a possible 15 points which can give us the top 8. We are up for the challenge,” Makgoara said.
“We are very aware of Aces’ form but we are also on form, we just won a tough match against Chippa and I don’t see us losing against Aces,” Makgoara stated.
Polokwane City striker Thobani Mcwango, who scored his 11th goal of the PSL season and the winner against Chippa United, said he was happy with his form in the League. “It is my job as striker to score goals and I am happy with my overall performance this season. It is a collective effort and I could not have done it without the support of my teammates. We want to continue the momentum and win the last remaining games and finish the league well,” Mcwango said.
In the last remaining matches they will be up against Orlando Pirates, University of Pretoria, Supersport United and Bloemfontein Celtic.
