Boasting two players among the award winners of this year’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards is certainly a feather in the cap of Ga-Mphahlele based Baroka Football Club.
Thabiso Kutumela and Ndivhuwo Ravhuhali were rewarded for their hard work during the 2015/16 National First Division (NFD) during an awards event held at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park on Monday evening when individual performances by players across both League and Cup competitions were recognised.
Kutumela was bestowed with the NFD Top Goal Scorer Award. He is a member of the 20-man Bafana Bafana squad elected to represent the country at the 2016 Edition of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup in Windhoek, Namibia on 18 June. Kutumela scored 18 goals throughout the season. Apart from the prestigious trophy he also received a cheque for R50 000 courtesy of the PSL.
Ravhuhali, a stalwart of the team’s defence, was named Nedbank Cup Young Player of the Tournament. The 23-year-old who hails from Louis Trichardt is on the wanted list of Kaizer Chiefs. He also received a trophy and R50 000.
Baroka Football Club Technical Director Oupa Kgoadi said the accolades are the results of hard work.
“They did well throughout the season and we hope that their awards will also inspire other players,” he said.
Kgoadi said plans are at an advanced stage for their NFD title celebrations and players awards ceremony scheduled for 25 June at Ngwana Mohube Sports ground in Seleteng, Ga-Maphahlele area. “We are still finalising the logistics and everything is going according to the plan. We are calling all the people of the province to come in numbers and share the moment with us. We are looking forward to an exciting event,” he said.
