The winner of the ABC Motsepe League Limpopo Division, Magezi Football Club from Moletjie now face the all-important task of maintaining form and determination in their quest to win a spot in the National First Division (NFD).
They will face the Orbit College (North West), Steenberg United (Western Cape), Kings United (KwaZulu-Natal), Tornado FC (Eastern Cape), Apollo XI (Mpumalanga), Môrester Jeug (Northern Cape), Manco Milano (Free State) and JDR Stars (Gauteng) at the National Play-Offs of the league set to take place at the Dr Molemela and Kaizer Sebothelo stadiums in Bloemfontein from 13 to 19 June. The teams are set to face off in two groups before the winner of each group meets in the grand finale.
Magezi finished the provincial division on 85 points after 30 matches. They will rely on influential players such as Sekhale Mhlabathi, Wonderboy Makhubu and Dibate Mahlakwana to take the team to the NFD.
Head Coach, Jacky Ledwaba is adamant that they will make the province proud at the play-offs. “It is the third time that we participate in the play-offs. This time we need to win in order to occupy the position vacated by Baroka Football Club and become the second team from the province in the NFD. We believe we have the capacity and the experience to win the contest. We had a good season, we qualified for the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup and I believe that experience will come in handy during the play-offs,” Ledwaba said.
The winner gets R1 million in prize money along with their promotion while the runners-up will pocket R500 000.
Wishing them good luck Abel Rakoma, President of South African Football Association (Safa) Capricorn Region said they were confident that Magezi would do well in the finals. “They have been there before. They have the experience and they have also acquired experience in the Nedbank Cup. We are adamant that they will do well,” Rakoma said.
