Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) praised soccer teams based in the District, Magezi Football Club, Molemole Academy and Baroka Football Club for their stellar performances in their respective leagues in the 2015/16 football season.
Molemole Academy based in the Botlokwa area did the district proud after they were promoted to ABC Motsepe League in May having won the SAB Capricorn Regional League title.
Magezi Football Club from Kgabo Park in the Moletjie area recently won the national play-offs of the ABC Motsepe league which saw them automatically promoted to the National First Division (NFD).
Baroka Football Club became the fifth team from the province to earn Premier Soccer League (PSL) status in May. They follow in the footsteps of Mahwelereng Real Rovers, Ria Stars and Black Leopards Football Club who competed in the league in the past.
Congratulating the teams at the Municipality Celebration Breakfast session at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday Thuso Nemugumoni, Executive Manager Community Services at CDM said they were proud to have such teams in the district. “We are proud of their achievements. We are a winning district and their achievements have made the district to shine in the province,” Nemungumoni said.
Member of South African Football Association Capricorn, Thomas Mulaudzi also applauded the spirit shown by the teams to be promoted to the upper level. “They showed great character and the zeal to move forward. We would like to see them doing well in their new leagues next season,” Mulaudzi said.
Betty Kgare, acting Executive Mayor of CDM said the achievements of the three teams inspires others to dream big. “There is no doubt that sport, especially football is the most famous sport and major interest of many people. As a municipality we say well done, keep it up and stay focused. We say go and conquer your fear and win your race, but the game is still on, so go head. We will keep on supporting you,” Kgare said.
