Run/Walk for Life Chairperson Kobie Marais presented an accolade of the medals to Moses Ngobeni, Marula Festival Project Manager and Ledet Tourism Director last week. “We are honoured to be of assistance during the annual Marula Festival. We love organising the half marathon as we can see how the event is growing in numbers annually,” Marais said, adding that this year well over 600 athletes competed in the event.
Ngobeni said athletes can look forward to next year’s race as there are possibilities that the prize money might be increased. “The race is all about developing the youth, to grow a love for athletics among young runners. By increasing the prize money we hope to lure bigger names in the running circle which will also serve as motivation for the youth. This year we dished out R37 500 in prize money,” Ngobeni said.
