Polokwane recently played host to the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) Futures Wheelchair Tennis Tournament sponsored by Airports Company South Africa with the finals being played at the municipal tennis courts last Tuesday.
Nalani Buob from Switzerland made her first appearance in South Africa a winning one with top local player Leon Els claiming the men’s single winners title. Quads ace Danny Mohlamonyane also celebrated as quads single winner.
Els claimed victory against Marshall Marsh scoring 5-7, 6-1 and 6-2. He admitted to a disappointing first set but raced to a blistering two sets in a two hour match against Marsh.
Buob has completed a magical week of tennis with her finest performance of all. She ended South African player Thando Hlatswayo’s dream with a 6-3 and 7-5 win.
In the quads event Danny Mohlamonyane who started incredibly strong took the first set against Bongani Dlamini but dropped the second set and had to fight back in the third set to claim victory with 6-2, 4-6 and 6-4.
