Limpopo Sports Confederation elected its new committee at the 2016 elective annual congress held at Dalmada outside Polokwane on Sunday.
The new members whom are set to grow sport in the province are Herbert Shiluvani, General Secretary, Christina Shikwambane, Additional Member, Hunandi Mpanyane, Deputy Secretary, Mashitisho Matsetela, Treasurer, Molatelo Mahapa, First Vice President, Eric Muneri, President, Leon Bannau, Second Vice President and Maite Raphasha, Additional Member. The new committee will serve for a period of five years.
Congratulating the new committee, MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Nandi Ndalane said she is elated by the strides and straddles that the confederation so far has traversed. “We expect more from you as this phase of the struggle requires sport activists who would not hesitate to immerse themselves in this unenviable task of sport development. As a confederation you would be found wanting and of no significance if you are not to be at the forefront of this transformation trajectory in sport. Empowered by the Constitution and the Sport and Recreation acts, we as the department expect no less from you,” Ndalane said.

“Limpopo has sporting talent, all that we request from you is to channel it in the direction that would benefit the whole country.”
She also urged the new members to place more focus on development and be biased towards rural communities. “We need people who are honest, accountable and selfless leadership that will take us forward. We need people who are sport loving that will volunteer their time, resources and space for the upliftment of sport in our province,” Ndalane stated.
Muneri said they need to work hard to see athletes from the province qualifying for Commonwealth Games, Para-Olympics and Olympics year in and year out.
“We don’t have enough representation of athletes in those events, we need to have a strong representation there. We must enjoy the medal standing at least at the top 3 if not at the helm. We should be able to create that platform of participating,” he said.
Gideon Sam, President of South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee said he was satisfied with the elected committee and wished them good luck in their tenure. “We want people who would want to go to the mountain top and see the picture of Limpopo. We want people who will make sure that schools and women are involved in sport and we have elected the right people,” Sam said.
