Super League put on hold

The Limpopo Softball Association has put the Super League on hold as learners are preparing for the examinations.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Softball Association has put the Super League on hold as learners are preparing for the examinations.

The Super League is an open men’s league where 13 teams compete for cash prizes, medals and a floating trophy.

The last matches were played at the Seshego Stadium on October 19.

The first leg of the league started on September 28 and was expected to end in January.

The board will meet on November 16 to discuss the reopening dates of the league.

Moletlane Texas Softball Club won the league last year.

According to Seshego Cannons Softball Club coach, Maputla Makgatho, the league is going smoothly and teams are committed and aim to win the trophy.

Makgatho says he is disappointed with the support from communities.

“The support we get from the communities is not enough and this might affect the sport of softball in the province. As a result, we would like to urge communities to support the sport to grow it to the next level,” says Makgatho.

He says the development side is not doing well as it seems schools are neglecting the sport of softball. He says they need to groom softball players at a young age and schools need to join forces with the association.

“Limpopo is regarded as the home of softball but yet people are not taking the sport serious in the province.”

University of Limpopo is on top of the log with 10 points, followed by Moletlane Texas with eight points. Mahwelereng Spikes is in third position with six points.
