Knockout round for Lim BSA licensees

LIMPOPO – LIMPOPO boxers and promoters refused renewing their licences demanding that Boxing South Africa (BSA) should stop deploying candidates from other provinces to manage them.
BSA licensees in Limpopo were supposed to have renewed licences in March this year but refused, pending BSA to allow them to nominate a local person to manage them.
They said they are tired of being managed by people from Gauteng who “don’t know the corners and challenges of Limpopo”.
“Three years ago, BSA deployed Abram Nkambule from Gauteng to manage us and he failed. Now BSA again deployed Archie Nyingwa also from Gauteng to come and manage us. Where is Nyingwa’s office? It is in Gauteng.
“Do you think we must go to meet him in Gauteng? Why didn’t BSA consult with us before contracting Nyingwa to work in Limpopo? We don’t want to be dictated by someone from outside.
“We have capable candidates in Limpopo who can manage us but BSA refuses.
“We have allowed Emmanuel Mutavhatsindi, the trainer of the SA female bantamweight champion, Bukiwe Nonina to renew the licence to avoid her losing her title,” they said.

BSA’s chairperson, Miditambi ‘Ntambi’ Ravele said they contracted Archie Nyingwa from Gauteng to facilitate Limpopo until such decision to appoint provincial managers has been taken by the board.
Ravele said BSA will advertise the provincial manager’s position.
“When BSA contracted a person to be provincial manager, there are particular qualifications that we check.
“To be provincial manager is not a full time job. Boxing should be managed professionally,” she said.
“Those boxers, trainers and promoters who are refusing to renew their licences didn’t communicate with us.
“My office has never received anything from those who are protesting to renew licences. If they are not renewing, what can I do?
“Renewing is a voluntary decision. I would urge licensees to register with BSA and for the time being they should allow BSA to address the issue of provincial manager.
“If they don’t renew, the only chance for licence renewal is next year in March. We are doing our best to take boxing to the next level in Limpopo.
“They should form an association to speak in one voice and we have already showed them how to form it.
“Boxing in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape is effective but Mpumalanga, Free State, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Western Cape and Limpopo is on average.
“North West and the Northern Cape are not satisfying our office. We are also applying the 2013 resolutions taken during out indaba held in Polokwane,” Ravele said.
