Lim volleyball teams mark their territory in Free State
Limpopo volleyball teams have made significant progress on the domestic scene, a remarkable feat that has given the provincial governing structure bragging rights.
LIMPOPO -Limpopo is currently the dominant force in the country, thanks – in no small part – to their recent heroic exploits at the Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT) held in the Free State capital city, Bloemfontein.
The Limpopo Volleyball Association (LVA) brought home three medals from the country’s premier event.
It was at the Bloemfontein Military Mase that the Limpopo junior women’s team put on a gallant fight to retain their championship title. The junior men’s team managed a second place.
The senior men’s team finished third, the same position they held at the end of last year’s tournament.
LSA Publicist, Lethabo Makgato says LVA is impressed with the recent developments, which she says is proof that the province is on the right track in its development agenda.
“We are happy with the overall performance of our teams at the recent national championships. We performed well. This is a positive sign that shows our province has unearthed tactical coaches and gifted players,” said Makgato. “Winning against resilient teams like Gauteng and Kwa-Zulu Natal felt really good for both the players and coaches,” Makgato added.
“These achievements are a reward for the commitment and preparation we put into the season.
“The pre-tournament support we received from Limpopo Academy of Sports, the Sports Council, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, district federations, local teams and institutions of higher learning greatly contributed to our success. Furthermore, the commitment of players in attending pre-season camps made our teams strnoger than ever. We hope to do well at the National Club Championships this year,” said Makgato.
The rivalry continues next month when the best teams in the country meet at the National Club Championships set to take place between 21 and 24 September in Durban. LVA will have the chance to brush up on their skills when they host the National Flying Fish Beach Volleyball Tournament between September 15 and 17 at the University of Limpopo.
Meanwhile, LVA is set to stage a series of league matches over the coming weekends. The venues are yet to be confirmed.
