There is no one more serious about playing darts, than Barbie

21-year-old darts lover, Tlhologelo Molala, was nicknamed Barbie because of her beauty but says people should not be misled as she is a fierce competitor with a dart in her hand.

POLOKWANE – Barbie has been playing since 2016 and says she began playing the game, because she was looking for a sport where she could be active but not go in the line of extreme sports and darts fitted the bill. She says the sport is more beneficial than people think, as it helps improve calculation and concentration and in the long run it is a must if you work with numbers.

She is a student at the University of Limpopo and completing her honours degree in development planning and management.
“I would like to work for government one day. It doesn’t matter what department I work in, as long as I can work in my field of study, I will be happy,” she says.

She practices darts three times a week, depending on her workload.

Her advice to young people is to do more things they do not know about. “We as young people do not like to get into things we do not understand. We need to go out, be brave and try new things,” she adds.  She is proud of having been chosen for the provincial team last year and in recent trials, took first place.

She describes herself as a person who is shy and quiet, but very good with people. Her golden rule in life is to be patient with yourself and not be someone who wants to force things. “Let them happen when and how they should.”

She adds that it is a sad fact that not many black people participate in the sport and she would like to see the sport grow in these communities. She believes just like her there is a lot of talent that needs to be seen.
