Anderson reflects on another tough year for swimmers

Limpopo Swimming Aquatics vice president Rob Anderson has commended their swimmers for showing resilience to still participate in some swimming events earlier this year.

POLOKWANE – Anderson said most of the swimmers were unable to compete and train due to the closure of the swimming facilities. “It was an incredibly tough year for them as we only had two swimming galas for the year due to the lockdown. Most of the swimmers were unable to train because the pools were closed. Some of them had access to pools but could not train during winter times as the heated swimming pools at the gym centres were closed.”

He said they hope things will get better and go back to normal next year. “We closed for the year, but we hope to host two provincial swimming galas in January and February at the Polokwane Municipal Swimming Pool.”

The event will see myriads of swimmers from various swimming clubs in the province battle for a spot in the provincial team, that will represent the province at the national swimming championships set to take place in Gauteng in April. “We look forward to the event and we hope that spectators will be allowed at the event. We also look forward to seeing more swimmers participate in the event,” Anderson said.

He added they have invited young swimmers from neighbouring countries.

“We do have relations with our neighbouring countries and we sometimes compete in those countries,. It is therefore important to maintain those relations.”
