Black Leopards FC send NB Lamasia into relegation

This was a do or die battle for both teams with the loser set for 'straight-to-the-relegation-zone' to the lower division.

LIMPOPO – Black Leopards deposited more points into their league account after their 2-0 victory over NB Lamasia in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday.

It was a do or die battle for both teams and the loser was set for straight-to-the-relegation-zone to the lower division.

The visitors showed no appetite for goals in the first half.

Leopards centre forward Thabama Mabena was unlucky on several occasions in the first 20 minutes of the game.

In the first instance, he received a neat pass from Donald Makgetlwa at the edge of the box and hesitated for too long to unleash and ultimately lost possession.

Nkosi Mavundla committed a similar mistake shortly thereafter. He unleashed aimlessly from the 20m area and the ball went far wide.

Lamasia threatened to score in the 38th minute when their overlapping midfielder, Aslin Willams, forced his way through the defence of Leopards and lost possession on the brink of unleashing from inside the box.

The home side took the lead in the 68th minute.

Leopards striker, Nkosi Mavundla was brought down within the box and the referee was quick to award a penalty to Leopards. Bethuel Muzeu made no mistake from the white spot.

Lamasia made the first change to their starting 11 by replacing Mogamat May, Kevin Etafia and Brandon Morris with Faud Johnson, Shane Rademeyer, Siyabonga Zulu and Ryan Baatjies in the last half.

Leopards increased the lead in the 78th minute.

Bethuel Muzeu beat the keeper with a ground cutter following a scramble within the box to complete his brace.
