U/11 cricket action under the lights

Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) invites residents to the junior T20 Cricket Under the Lights at the Polokwane Cricket Club's grounds.

POLOKWANE – Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) invites residents to the junior T20 Cricket Under the Lights at the Polokwane Cricket Club’s grounds.

The Limpopo Impala Cricket u/11 league kicked off on Friday, with Kings Cricket School taking on Northern Academy.

Kings went in to bat first and put up an amazing total of 176 for two in the allowed 20 overs.

Kings captain, Khaif Patel scored 95 runs not out, and was the top batsman of the day.

With Northern Academy at the crease, Patel also performed with the ball, taking eight wickets for only five runs in four overs. Northern Academy’s batsmen managed to score 16 runs in 9,4 overs before their last wicket fell.

“One of the main reasons for such a league is to get more kids playing cricket and to also bring back the family vibe to cricket in Polokwane,” says Sedibu Mohlaba, LIC spokesperson. The Cricket Under the Lights will take place every Wednesday and Friday until July 30, with six schools from around Polokwane and Louis Trichardt competing.

Curro Heuwelkruin, Laerskool Pietersburg-Oos, two teams from Laerskool Pietersburg, Northern Academy and Kings Cricket School will compete in fun and competitive 20-overs matches for the next two months.

There will be two games per day with the first match from 15:00 to 17:30 and the second match from 18:00 to 20:30.

All teams will play an equal number of games during the day and in the evening, and the league will be played on a once-off round-robin base.

Laerskool Pietersburg and Heuwelkruin will battle it out in 20 overs tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.

“We urge the people of Polokwane to come and support this event every Wednesday and Friday,” added Mohlaba.
