All things sport is what he lives for

POLOKWANE – Whenever there is a sporting event at Mitchell House, you are sure to find Frederick Romijn (35) close to the field.

Romijn is the sports director at Mitchell House and is responsible for all the sporting codes at the school, setting up fixtures and deciding who is playing when and against whom.

He grew up in Middelburg, where he also matriculated. He studied B.Com financial management after school and also completed a teacher’s diploma.

He went on to Roodepoort High School, teaching gr. 8 and gr. 9 classes.

“I came to Mitchell House in April 2013 as the director of sport. I love working with children. Their enthusiasm is amazing, they have so few worries and it is good to see their happiness,” says Romijn.

The toughest part of his job is working with government, he says.

Romijn says he loves all types of sport and is a big Lions supporter.

He also loves watching and participating in cricket and athletics.

“It is hard to choose a sport that I do not like, but I have trouble acknowledging chess and bowls as a sport.”

He says sport is very important in a person’s life.

“Participating in sport helps you to socialise and helps you get rid of stress. It helps you to relax,” is the advice he gives.
