Mad science or music genius?
This duo's ability to mix lyrics and music in the studio is akin to two scientists working their magic in a lab
POLOKWANE – MusiQLab’s Solomon Dolce La Sol Maluleke (33) and Phalane Mark Lane Machaba (26) are on the rise in the music industry as producers, mixers, and DJs.
Their secret to success? Teamwork. They both agree without teamwork, which they both love, their business wouldn’t succeed.
Dolce La Sol and Mark Lane have been an inseperable duo for five years and are still going strong.
“My stage name is a combination of various factors. I chose Dolce, an Italian word meaning ‘sweet’, because I’m a social, sweet, and kind individual. La Sol comes from my name, Solomon,” Dolce La Sol told BONUS.

Mark Lane followed the same method to create his stage name. “I took Lane from my name, Phalane, and Mark from my surname, Machaba. I twisted the Mac from Machaba to Mark because for me it made more sense,” he explained.
As a duo, they also produce for other artists locally and market their own music with the help of other known artists. “Our upcoming extended play (EP), Please Stay, will be released and marketed by DeepSonic of Rain Man-fame.
“We both got our love of production, DJ, and remixing from local guys like DJ Beef, Willards Rogers, Problem Child, Da Capo, and other well-known national DJs,” La Sol said.
MusiQLab plans to host at least two events, Our Deep Tech EP launch around the end of June, and a soulful EP later the year, around summer.
“Our single, Please Stay, was released on traxsource, beatport, and SoundCloud on 5 May and will feature remixes from several producers,” Mark Lane concluded.
