Nkabeng lives, loves, laughs through her poetry

[LISTEN] as Rahab Selepe 'Nkabaneg', one of Polokwane's own, praises the city

POLOKWANE – Rahab Selepe, a Grade 12 learner from Mabokelele Thambo in Moletjie, is a spoken word poet who hopes to inspire others through her work.

This Seshego High School learner performs poetry under the stage name Nkabaneg.

“My mentor is Daniel Thinandavha Nekhavambe and he is the one that made me put more time and effort into my work as a poet and work as a mind or thought-provoking artist,” she says.

Rahab, who started writing poetry at the age of eight, says her poems are centred around her personal experiences. Her biggest inspiration is the 14-year-old spoken word artist, Bohlale Boikanyo, winner of SA’s Got Talent 2012. She says Boikanyo’s success proved she too could forge a career out of her passion.

Rahab says she writes and performs her own work as she believes in being authentic as an artist and not copying someone else’s work.

With a love for the arts and entertaining people, Rahab is currently working on her debut poetry album inspired by everyday experiences, both good and bad. Her aim is to get people talking about important issues which will eventually lead to people coming up with solutions to their problems.

So far, the album consists of five praise poems, these are Moletji, City of Stars, Nkabaneng, Happy Birthday and Lefase ke la Jehova.

Rahab lives by the simple motto, live, love, laugh.
