Get your tongs ready – Braai Knights is back
Enter your team now and you could be capped the next Braai King/Queen
POLOKWANE – Last year the term ‘braai’ reached new meaning as the Limpopo Knights Braai competition grew into an event to remember.
This year the plan is to do it even better than last year, ensuring more tasty dishes and more fun. The theme for this year is Story Time and the food and tables should tell a story.
The teams will start with their braai-off on Monday, 3 July at the Polokwane Golf Club. Like last year, four teams will compete every week and teams will consist of two people who will be capped as Knight Braaiers. Capping starts at 16:00 and the first team will start to braai at 16:20 with the other teams 20 minutes later.
The judges this year are Braai Ninja, Dirk Liebenberg, Christo Hildebrand and Marjorie Knoetze, one of last year’s winners.
Liebenberg is well-known as the Braai King of Polokwane and he is one of the braai organisers.
“Bradley Mockford, Martin Kobald and Thys die Bosveldklong will also make appearances as guest judges. Each week the type of meat contestants will have to braai will be announced in Review and they will have three hours to complete their dishes which will include a main meal, potbrood and dessert,” Liebenberg said.

The contestants are not allowed to prepare anything at home and must prepare everything on the fire. The finalists will compete in a braai-off on 23 September, a day before National Braai Day, on 24 September. The winners will be announced on the day of the finals. Each team can bring along supporters every Monday who can enjoy refreshments at the bar at Polokwane Golf Club as well as enjoy a meal.
The first prize is R20 000, the second place prize R7 500, and the third place prize is R5 000. All of the winners will receive other prizes as well as the cash prizes.

The money raised from this year’s competition will be used by the Knights to aid the elderly with a Tuk-Tuk to transport food which an old age home, that will still be selected, will sell to generate an income.
“We plan to give each contestant a more fair chance to win the competition this year so teams are not allowed to spend more than R1 500 on food,” said Nelmar Smit, one of the organisers.
The meat which will be braaied on Monday is pork and the teams competing are Curro Heuwelkruin, Hoërskool Pietersburg, Hoër Tegniese Skool Tom Naudé and Laerskool Pietersburg-Oos,
Sponsors so far for the event are Kainos Financial Services, Toyota Finance and Limpopo Toyota.
