Klaas mixes his passion for music with education
Afropop artist, Moratuwa Gininda, better known by his fans as Klaas is fast gaining popularity in the entertainment industry.
POLOKWANE – The 25-year-old from Lebowakgomo began his music career at an early age. With education as one of his priorities, Klaas completed a diploma in hospitality management at Capricorn TVET and now has his sights set on music greatness. He recently released his new AfroPop single, Senoinoi, and it is already a favourite hit on several radio stations such as Thobela FM, Energy FM and GLFM.
“I started singing at the age of five and I began to play piano at 15. I was a choir master, a pianist and a vocal trainer growing up. Aside from these activities, I help children in my community with their education by giving extra classes after school. Just as education is one of my priorities, so is living a fit and healthy lifestyle which is why I run a health and fitness facility at the church I am based which caters for people in the community. I also manage the church football and netball club to help keep the youth off of the streets,” Klaas said.
He began to pursue his career as a professional musician while he was doing his tertiary studies and he formed Gospel Dynamites, a gospel band which grew in leaps and bounds. They recorded a four-track gospel project and performed at social gatherings in their community.
“I decided to pursue a solo career and recorded my first single, Senoinoi, which I wrote when I was 12, last year,” he said.
Musicians such as Joyous Celebration inspire him as their music evolves with time. Ringo Madlingozi is another artist he admires as he has a unique way of singing that communicates with people from all spheres life.
“My journey has not always been smooth and I had many financial difficulties I had to overcome. Another problem is as a young artist people often take advantage of you by inviting you to perform at an event and then refusing to pay. I made it as a musician because I refuse to give up and I am persistent to achieve my goals.” He added his family, aside from his cousin Vinny Ngwenya, wasn’t initially supportive of his dream to become a musician.
“Vinny has been my pillar of strength who has supported me since the beginning. Being a musician is a God given gift that we don’t choose, it chooses us. My goal is to have my own music academy where I can teach aspiring musicians. There are several big things in the works woth regard to my career as an artist and I am excited for what the future holds.”
Klaas has shared the stage with big names such as Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Kgotso Makgalema, Winnie Mashaba and Solly Moholo which he added was a big honour and blessing.
