Pilot looks at life through a different lens

Pilot Bhekisisa Biller has a passion for cinematography and his goal is to become one of the most well-known Directors of Photography.

POLOKWANE – Pilot, who is from Musina, plans to use his acquired skills and knowledge about the field of film and television industry to reach his goal of becoming a Director of Photography.

A D.O.P, also known as the cinematography or the director of photography, is the chief over the camera and light crews working on a film, television production or other live action piece and is responsible for making artistic and technical decisions related to the image.

The 27-year-old holds a qualification in Film and Television from Big Fish school of Digital Film Making in Cape Town.

“I have always loved taking photographs and taking videos of people around me. I plan to teach the world about Women’s and children’s rights and also introducing news forms of learning such as going digital, seeing that we have moved into a more digitalised way of doing things. I think if education systems and ways of teaching can be moved to a more digitalised way more children will succeed in their studies,” he explained.

Although Biller speaks of hardships he has had to face during his studies and after completion, he says that no factor has never been discouraged to quit following his passion and pursuing a career in the the Film and Television industry.

He has opened a Film and Television productions company which offers quality documentary and drama productions for local and international audiences.

“The company has a wealth of expertise in the production and management of current affairs programming, documentaries, drama and non-broadcast productions in South Africa and Southern Africa. Biller Films focuses on, and is committed to, developing the quality of documentary and drama productions in the region so that local and particularly black filmmakers can make productions that are internationally competitive. Our aim to develop strong stories and voices can be seen through innovative and professionally crafted productions,” he said.
