Lim Film Festival to boost local filmmakers

Attention all aspiring and active film producers, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, in conjunction with Maxisky Film Production, presents the Limpopo Film Festival at the Mall of the North.

POLOKWANE – To kickstart the festival, the film Kalushi  will be screened for free at the Mall of the North Ster Kinekor on 4 December at 17:00 and viewers will get a free popcorn and drink to enjoy with the movie.

From 5 to 7 December films such as Business by Fumani Shiluvana as well as other short films by local producers and directors will be screened at the Polokwane Royal Hotel. Marketing and distribution is by the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), films are directed and produced by Rudzani Mthumi.

Aspiring film producers and directors are encouraged to attend this informative event as they will be taught about the various aspects of the film industry including the licensing and classification of movies by the Film and Publications Board.

Managing Director of Maxisky Media (Pty) Ltd Film and Productions, Eliyah Papole, said the criteria for submission is any good movie which has English subtitles and is between 10 minutes to an hour and a half long. “We’ll engage the relevant producer to work on upgrading the quality in future on low quality films. Local filmmakers who have completed films with English subtitles can contact me at Info@maxiskymedia.com,” Papole said.

“I feel empowered and inspired through this initiative and I hope in future we might be able to do more such as host a film and production workshop within the Capricorn district to give all local producers insight as to how they could benefit from this initiative and what other opportunities can stem from this.”
