All things political with Energy FM’s analyst, Elvis Masoga

This week readers and listeners get to know Energy FM and Choice FM's Elvis Masoga, the stations' resident political analyst

POLOKWANE – Masoga is also a regular column writer for BONUS and our sister newspaper, Capricorn Voice.

• Which political party are you affiliated to? Kwena Moshomame from Luthuli Park.

“Truthfully, I’m not aligned to or associated with any political party for that matter. The Ethical Code of Conduct for Political Analysts does not permit analysts to align themselves with any political party.”

• If you were given a chance to be one of the ministers in South Africa, which department would you choose and why? Mapula Makgashi at Solomondale.

“If I was the minister of education, I would introduce research methodology at primary and secondary/high schools. Research methodology stimulates innovation, creativity and scholastic diligence in students. Research inspires students to read and study every day. A culture of academic excellence can only be attained through passionate reading, studying and learning.”

• How do you cope with all the negativity that comes with your field of profession and how does it generally affect your family? The Saint Pablo from Sebayeng.

“There are people who praise and admire our professional contributions. There are also some individuals who enjoy hurling public insults at political analysts. My beautiful wife and our two cute daughters are not negatively affected by the public nature of my profession.”

• What would you be doing if you weren’t into politics? Maggy Rapetsoa from Mmotong.

“I think I could have been a pastor or bishop of a church. Nowadays there is too much money, riches and wealth in our churches. I suspect I could have been a billionaire pastor.”

• What time do you sleep Mr Masoga? Justice Ngoepe from Moletjie Motinti.

“I truly enjoy being a political analyst. This profession inspires us to create new knowledge and to discover unique models of exploration. At times I do sleep early, around 22:00, but sometimes I sleep way after midnight because of professional obligations.”

• What motivated you to study in that filed, or is it your ancestors who gave you that profession? Justice Ngoepe from Moletjie Motinti.

“My lifelong passion for history and politics motivated me into the discourse of political analysis. Maybe my ancestors have somehow directed me towards this profession.”

• Do you follow sports and do you sometimes analyse soccer or rugby? Justice Ngoepe from Moletjie Motinti.

“I’m not by any measure a sports analyst but I have, for decades, been a critical supporter of soccer. My most favourite soccer club is Premier Soccer League (PSL).”

• Why do you think Makhosi Khoza decided to use colours similar to the ANC?

“Any new political party should not use a name, logo or colours that are similar to that of an existing political party. Newly formed parties must demonstrate their originality and innovative creativity.”
