Game rangers, former servicemen and those who spend time around campfires will be delighted to learn that singer, songwriter, entertainer, storyteller, author and bush pilot John Edmond aka ‘Bush Cat’ will be performing in Polokwane on 10 March.
The proceeds of his performance, arranged by the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (Moths) of Botha Shellhole in Polokwane, will go to old age home Peacehaven, which offers inexpensive housing to needy former soldiers and their families and is run by non-profit organisation Moths Ex-Servicemen Cottage Association (Mesca).
Edmond’s musical career took him through the 60s, 70’s pop, country and TV eras with seven smash South African hits in a row, including ‘Toy Train’, ‘Pasadena’ and ‘Round and Around’. His Zimsongs CD was number one for a year, and he is also the creator of the ‘Tales of the Game Rangers’ series which is a four-album set of bush songs and stories. His CD ‘Born in Africa’ has been selling internationally following his tours to the US, UK, Australasia and Zimbabwe. His autobiography ‘Bushcat – Minstrel of the Wild’ was published in 1997.
Moths Botha Shellhole Old Bill, Ben Smit said it was an honour to be able to host such a superb musician whose songs also took him back to the years he spent in the defence force. “John Edmond’s performance is not to be missed as his music evokes nostalgic memories to most of the older generation,” Smit added. The proceeds of this fundraising event will go a long way to assist in the management of Peacehaven and exhorted the community to lend their support.
The Moths and Polokwane Observer are giving away 10 sets (two tickets per set) of tickets valued at R300 per set to attend the event.
The show will take place on 10 March at Pietersburg Laerskool (Suidskool) on the corner of Voortrekker and Thabo Mbeki streets at 18:30 for 19:00.
