The Rotary Club of Polokwane made donations to community organisations and recognised vocational excellence at its annual awards ceremony in the Polokwane Game Reserve on Saturday evening.
Elvy Nkhawana and Shayne Moodie received vocational awards in their personal capacities for their involvement in a project at Golden Future Pre-school in Seshego where educators and community members are trained to manufacture household items from recycled materials.
Avril Mueller received R10 000 on behalf of Ngwana Baby House, while Bruce Goetsch and Helen Bosman were presented with a ‘cheque’ for R15 000 for the Honorary Rangers Limpopo Region.
A group of nine visitors from the United States of America and Mexico also attended the function which served as the send-off for a visit to Kruger National Park as part of the club’s safari project, led by Rotarian Charles Hardy, his wife Lois and fellow Rotarians Keith and Ursula Moodie who will serve as hosts.
“The object of Rotary’s vocational awards is to recognise individuals who go the extra mile to serve their communities in their work environments,” President of the Rotary Club of Polokwane, Chymie Naidoo said at the ceremony. Naidoo also explained that the funds that were donated to Ngwana Baby House and the Honorary Rangers were raised through the regular safaris hosted for visitors from abroad.
“The safaris are really popular and this one is the second one for this month,” Hardy said as he invited the visitors to blow on a kudu horn after they were treated to a traditional South African meal with a venison potjie and home-baked bread as main course.
